The webinar 'International taxation, BEPS and Principal Purpose Test (PPT)' provides an introduction to international income taxation of business transactions. The main focus is on bilateral tax treaties as a means of promoting cross- border investments and international trade through the avoidance of international double taxation. This webinar will also give an overview on the impact of the recent legal tools to prevent tax avoidance behaviors in cross-border settings, namely the ¨principal purpose test¨ envisaged by article 29 (9) OECD MC and the EU GAAR laid down in article 6 EU ATAD Directive.

Who should attend?
The webinar invites business representatives, legal counsels, policy makers, compliance officers dealing with issues of international taxation. Knowledge of tax law is not required.

Teachers

  • Irma Mosquera Valderrama, Associate Professor, Tax Law Department, Faculty of Law, Leiden University and Lead Researcher ERC funded project GLOBTAGOV (A new model of Global Governance in International Tax Law Making).
  • Ricardo Garcia Antón, is an assistant professor at Tilburg Univeristy. In the past he was a Senior Research Associate and a postdoctoral research fellow at IBFD Academic. He received his PhD from the European University Institute (EUI) in 2015. Prior to joining the EUI in 2010, he worked for seven years as a tax practitioner at Deloitte, PwC and at one of the major law firms in Spain (Perez-Llorca) in the field of taxation, concentrating on due diligences/tax audits, M&A transactions and tax opinions related to tax disputes. His research interests are focused on European taxation and international tax law.

Access to the webinar 'International taxation, BEPS and Principal Purpose Test (PPT)'
The webinar 'International taxation, BEPS and Principal Purpose Test (PPT)' takes place online via the user-friendly and secure web-based program Kaltura Live Room of Leiden University. To get access to Kaltura Live Room, you don't need to download any software. You open Kaltura Live Room via your internet browser (Google Chrome or Firefox). 

A few days before the webinar you will receive an instruction document with information about accessing the digital meeting place. This document can also be found in My JPAO.

If you are in the Live Room, your camera and your microphone will not be activated. The instructor and fellow participants will therefore not be able to see or hear you. Participating in an online meeting at Juridisch PAO Leiden is completely safe! It is possible to ask questions to the teacher by chat or if you prefer using camera and microphone: the choice is yours. 

You will be responsible for a working internet, audio and possible video connection. So please make sure to verify in time that this works properly. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with this.

Certificate PO Points
